Your Intuition Has Been Whispering All Along
How to Trust Yourself and Make Room for the Life You Truly Want
"You can't manifest a life you won't make room for."

If you've been feeling stuck, burned out, or quietly wondering if there's more to life than simply getting through the day, you're not alone.
Many women reach a point where their lives look successful on the outside but no longer feel aligned on the inside. They begin questioning their career, relationships, purpose, or direction, yet struggle to explain why.
Often, the answer isn't that something is wrong.
It's that your intuition has been trying to get your attention.
Intuition isn't magic or wishful thinking. It's your mind and body recognizing patterns, values, and experiences long before your logical brain can fully explain them. Learning to trust that quiet inner voice is one of the most important steps toward creating a life that feels authentic, purposeful, and deeply fulfilling.
For me...
That realization changed everything.
A Conversation I Couldn't Stop Thinking About
A few weeks ago, I sat down with Ricci-Jane Adams on The SheHandlesIt Show to talk about intuition.
We explored what it means to trust that quiet inner knowing that so many of us have learned to ignore. One thing she said stayed with me long after the cameras stopped rolling.
She talked about how exhausting it is to ignore our intuition.
That sentence stopped me.
Not because I hadn't heard the idea before.
Because I had lived it.
The more I thought about our conversation, the more I realized something.
I don't think most of us struggle because we don't know what we want.
I think we struggle because we've spent years convincing ourselves not to trust what we already know.
Looking back now, I don't think my intuition ever stopped speaking to me.
I simply became incredibly good at explaining it away.
Looking back, I now recognize this as part of what I call a Midlife Awakening.
It's that moment when the life you've carefully built no longer feels like it fits the person you've become.
It isn't a crisis.
It's an invitation.
For many women, a Midlife Awakening begins long before any visible life changes occur. It often starts with quiet questions like, Why doesn't this feel fulfilling anymore? or Is this really the life I want? Those questions aren't signs that something is wrong. They're often the first signs that you're growing into a new version of yourself.
For Years, I Thought I Had a Productivity Problem
For years, I convinced myself that I just needed to become better.
A better leader.
Better organized.
Better at managing my time.
Better at handling stress.
I was constantly searching for a better process or a better mindset because surely...
If I could just improve myself enough...
Everything else would finally feel better.
It never did.
Instead...
I woke up nauseous.
I was constantly exhausted.
I felt like I was walking on eggshells.
Every day felt like I was one difficult conversation away from exploding.
At night, I would lie in bed while tears quietly rolled down my cheeks.
I remember feeling ashamed.
Ashamed that I couldn't seem to handle the life I had worked so hard to build.
I remember feeling scared.
Scared that maybe this was simply what adulthood looked like.
So I kept doing what I thought successful people were supposed to do.
Work harder.
Push through.
Figure it out.
Looking back now, I realize something that completely changes how I see that season of my life.
I wasn't ignoring burnout.
I was ignoring myself.
Coaching Reflection
Before you keep reading, pause for just a moment.
Ask yourself...
- Where in my life do I keep telling myself, "I just need to try harder"?
- What have I been explaining away because it's easier than facing the truth?
- If I stopped trying to fix myself... what might I finally be willing to acknowledge?
Sometimes the answers we need aren't waiting somewhere outside of us.
Sometimes they're waiting beneath all the noise.
Why Do We Ignore Our Intuition?
Here's what I've come to believe.
Most of us don't ignore our intuition because we don't hear it.
We ignore it because the other voices are louder.
The voice that says...
"You should be grateful."
"Other people would love your life."
"You can't walk away now."
"You've worked too hard to start over."
"You're just overwhelmed."
"Get over it."
That was certainly true for me.
On paper, my life looked successful.
I had a career many people would have wanted.
I made good money.
I had a beautiful home.
I had a wonderful family.
From the outside...
Everything looked exactly the way I had imagined success would look.
Behind the scenes, though, I felt like I was failing everyone.
I felt like a terrible boss whenever parenting responsibilities interrupted work.
I felt like the worst mother because work demanded so much of me.
My marriage was struggling.
My nervous system was exhausted.
And yet...
I kept telling myself that I should just appreciate what I had.
I thought success meant climbing the ladder.
I thought wanting something different made me ungrateful.
Those weren't my thoughts.
Those were beliefs I had collected over decades.
My intuition wasn't telling me to quit my job.
It wasn't demanding that I blow up my life.
It was quietly whispering something much simpler.
This doesn't fit anymore.
"Your intuition doesn't always ask you to change your life. Sometimes it simply whispers, 'This doesn't fit anymore.'”
Can Your Body Know Something Before Your Mind Does?
One of my favorite parts of my conversation with Ricci-Jane was realizing that intuition doesn't have to be viewed as something mysterious or mystical.
In fact, psychology and neuroscience give us language for something many of us have experienced.
Researchers have found that our brains are constantly processing information below our conscious awareness. Long before we can logically explain why something feels "off," our subconscious has often recognized patterns based on years of lived experience.
In psychology, intuition is often described as rapid subconscious pattern recognition. Long before we can logically explain why something feels right or wrong, our brains have already begun connecting past experiences, emotions, values, and observations. What we call a "gut feeling" is often our mind processing information faster than our conscious thoughts can put it into words.
There's also growing research around interoception, which is our ability to notice the internal signals our bodies send us.
That tightness in your chest.
The knot in your stomach.
The Sunday night dread.
The feeling of calm when you're finally doing something that aligns with your values.
These aren't random.
They're information.
That doesn't mean every uncomfortable feeling is your intuition telling you to make a drastic life change.
But it does mean those feelings deserve curiosity instead of dismissal.
For years, I dismissed mine.
I called it stress.
I blamed myself.
I searched for another productivity system.
Another planner.
Another mindset shift.
Anything except the possibility that my body was trying to tell me something my mind wasn't yet ready to hear.
Maybe the better question isn't...
"What's wrong with me?"
Maybe the better question is...
"What have I been trying so hard not to hear?"
You Can't Manifest a Life You Won't Make Room For
We hear the word manifestation a lot these days.
Some people embrace it.
Others dismiss it.
Here's what I've come to believe.
Manifestation isn't about wishing for a different life.
It's about becoming willing to create space for one.
Because the truth is...
You can't build a life that feels aligned while clinging to beliefs that no longer serve you.
You can't invite peace into a schedule that leaves no room to breathe.
You can't experience freedom while holding onto an identity that's rooted in who you used to be instead of who you're becoming.
And you can't hear your intuition if every other voice is louder.
Sometimes we think we're waiting for clarity.
What we're actually waiting for is permission.
Permission to admit we're unhappy.
Permission to want more.
Permission to redefine success.
Permission to stop trying to become better at living a life that no longer fits.
Looking back, that's exactly what I was doing.
I wasn't searching for a new life.
I was searching for a way to survive the one I already had.
Those are two very different things.
Coaching Reflection
Before you keep reading...
Take a deep breath and ask yourself these questions.
- What part of my life feels heavy right now?
- Am I carrying this because it still aligns with who I am... or because I've convinced myself I should?
- What belief might I need to release before I can create space for something new?
You don't have to answer every question today.
But don't ignore them.
Sometimes awareness is the very first act of courage.
The Freedom I Never Expected
When I finally left my corporate career, people often assumed I must have felt terrified.
And I did.
I had no idea exactly where my next paycheck was coming from.
I didn't have every detail figured out.
I couldn't see every step ahead.
But what surprised me most wasn't the uncertainty.
It was the freedom.
For the first time in years, I wasn't working toward someone else's definition of success.
I was working toward something that felt like me.
The constant pressure to simply work harder disappeared.
The guilt that told me I just needed to be stronger, better, or more productive started to lift.
It honestly felt like someone had removed a hundred-pound weight from my shoulders.
Not because my life suddenly became easy.
Because I could finally see a path forward.
Looking back now, I don't regret trusting my intuition.
I regret how many years I spent arguing with it.
How to Start Trusting Yourself Again
One of the biggest myths about intuition is that it requires one giant leap.
It doesn't.
In my experience, trusting yourself begins with much smaller decisions.
It begins with honesty.
It begins by admitting that something no longer fits.
It begins by becoming curious instead of judgmental.
It begins by asking yourself better questions.
Instead of...
"What's wrong with me?"
Try asking...
"What is this feeling trying to teach me?"
Instead of...
"How do I keep surviving this?"
Ask...
"What would a life that actually feels good look like?"
Instead of...
"How do I ignore this feeling?"
Ask...
"What if this feeling has been trying to guide me all along?"
Those questions don't require you to quit your job tomorrow.
They don't require you to end a relationship.
They don't require you to reinvent your life overnight.
They simply invite you to become honest.
And honesty has a way of changing everything.
Your Midlife Awakening Doesn't Begin With a Leap
It begins with a whisper.
I think that's one of the biggest misconceptions about change.
We imagine transformation happening in one dramatic moment.
One bold decision.
One giant leap of faith.
In reality...
Transformation usually begins much more quietly.
It begins the moment you stop arguing with yourself.
It begins when you admit that you're tired.
That you want more joy.
More peace.
More purpose.
More freedom.
More alignment.
That moment isn't weakness.
It's wisdom.
Looking back now, I realize that's what my own Midlife Awakening really was.
It wasn't leaving my career.
It wasn't starting SheHandlesIt.
It wasn't writing a book.
Those were simply the visible outcomes.
My Midlife Awakening began much earlier.
It began the day I finally stopped trying to convince myself that a life which looked successful should automatically feel fulfilling.
That was the day I finally started listening.
You Are Not Alone
If you're reading this with tears in your eyes because a part of you knows exactly what I'm talking about...
Please hear me.
Your intuition isn't asking you to have all the answers today.
It isn't asking you to quit your job tomorrow.
It isn't asking you to blow up your life.
It's asking you to be honest.
Honest that something doesn't fit anymore.
Honest that you're tired.
Honest that you want something more for yourself.
Not because you're ungrateful.
Not because you're failing.
Not because you're broken.
Because you're growing.
There is nothing selfish about wanting a life that feels as good as it looks.
You deserve that.
We all do.
Maybe your intuition isn't asking you to become someone else.
Maybe...
It's simply asking you to come home to yourself.
Pause & Reflect
Before you close this page, spend five quiet minutes with these questions.
- Where in my life have I been explaining away what I already know?
- What belief about success am I ready to let go of?
- If fear weren't making the decisions, what would my next small step be?
- What would it look like to trust myself just 10% more this week?
You don't have to change your entire life today.
Just take one step toward the woman you're becoming.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is intuition?
Intuition is your ability to recognize patterns, experiences, and internal signals before your logical mind fully understands them. It's often described as a quiet inner knowing that helps guide decisions aligned with your values.
How do I know if I'm ignoring my intuition?
Many people ignore their intuition by constantly explaining away feelings of burnout, dissatisfaction, or uneasiness. If you've been telling yourself to simply work harder or push through despite feeling deeply unfulfilled, your intuition may already be trying to get your attention.
Can intuition help during a life transition?
Yes. While intuition shouldn't replace thoughtful decision-making, it can provide valuable insight into what feels aligned with your values, purpose, and overall well-being. Learning to listen to that inner guidance can help you navigate career changes, relationships, and personal growth with greater clarity.
