Just Because You Believe It… Doesn’t Mean It’s True
How Old Stories Keep Us Stuck — and How to Finally Break Free

We all carry stories.
Stories we were told.
Stories we interpreted.
Stories we absorbed from the world around us.
And once we start to believe those stories, they become incredibly difficult to unbelieve.
They start to run the show in the background—shaping our decisions, our confidence, our relationships, our careers. All without us even realizing it.
Sometimes the story sounds like:
“I’m not good with money.”
Or
“I could never do that.”
Or
“I need to be productive all the time or I’m failing.”
Or
“People will leave if I stop being everything for everyone.”
At some point, that story protected you. It made sense. It helped you survive, adapt, or get love.
But now? It might be the very thing keeping you stuck.
How the Story Starts
Some of these beliefs come from childhood. You got praise when you performed well or helped out—so you learned that love is earned through productivity.
Some come from early relationships. Maybe someone made you feel “too much” or “not enough,” and that narrative stuck. So now you play small to avoid rejection.
Others show up in work. You do your job well, so you get promoted… but no one teaches you how to lead at the next level. So you keep doing your old job, burning out while trying to prove yourself in the new one.
It’s not always easy to spot when an old belief is running the show.
But the symptoms usually look like this:
- You feel stuck or overwhelmed—and you can’t explain why.
- You’re constantly busy, but not moving forward.
- You’re avoiding decisions you know you need to make.
- You’re living a life that looks fine on the outside but doesn’t feel aligned on the inside.
That’s not failure.
That’s misalignment.
And it usually starts with a story that’s no longer true.
You Can’t Get Unstuck with the Same Story That Got You Stuck
This is where coaching comes in.
A coach isn’t here to “fix” you.
They’re here to hold up the mirror and help you see the patterns that are no longer serving you.
To ask the hard questions.
To challenge the old narratives.
To help you rewrite the story—from survival to intention, from autopilot to awareness.
I can’t count how many clients have come to me feeling like something was “off,” but they couldn’t name it. They were spinning in indecision, overwhelmed by options, or stuck in cycles of overthinking.
And often, what we discover together is this:
They’re still living by someone else’s definition of success, worth, or identity.
They’re still carrying a story that doesn’t fit the person they’re becoming.
Once they get clear on the real story—their true values, strengths, goals, and desires—everything starts to shift.
You Get to Write a New Story
The beliefs that keep us stuck didn’t start with us — but they can end with us.
Just because you’ve believed something for a long time doesn’t make it true.
And just because you’ve lived one way doesn’t mean you have to keep living that way.
You’re allowed to grow.
You’re allowed to outgrow.
You’re allowed to pause, reevaluate, and rewrite what comes next.
You don’t have to do it alone.
If you’re tired of living by outdated narratives that no longer fit the person you’re becoming, let’s talk.
Book a free Clarity Session — a space to get honest about what’s keeping you stuck, and start mapping a way forward that actually feels aligned.
You’ve carried the old story long enough.
Let’s find the one that fits who you really are.
